"This passion for steep skiing has led me to technical first descents in the Alps, Baffin Island, British Columbia, Norway and New Zealand. Most recently in autumn 2017 my ski partners and I skied the first descent of the 2,000 meter Caroline Face on Mt. Cook, one of the world’s largest unskied lines."

I was born in the USA, just outside of Washington DC and moved with my family to East Sussex in south-east England at age 11. Soon after moving I discovered skiing on a school ski trip to Austria. At the end of the week I won a slalom race against kids who had all been skiing before. I was hooked and knew I had to ski more.

Throughout my teens my interest in skiing and the mountains grew and with only a couple weeks of ski experience behind me my friends and I would venture into unknown areas of off-piste and get epically stuck in deep snow we didn’t know how to ski. I soon became obsessed with the idea of exploring mountains on skis and developed an unhealthy fascination with steep skiing.

Parallel to this I began rock climbing in my teens on the sandstone outcrops of Sussex and soon further afield all over the UK. After graduating university I knew I had to move to the Alps to test myself in the bigger mountains. This started with a ski season in Tignes where I took a job that allowed me to ski 6 days a week. I would often go touring into more adventurous lines alone since most of my fellow seasonaires were more interested in drinking than skiing steep couloirs. The next step for me was to move to Chamonix to pursue alpine climbing and steep skiing with a passion. During my first season in Cham I threw myself in at the deep end skiing fabled steep lines on the north face of the Midi and elsewhere around the Massif.

Since that time I’ve skied many of the steepest lines in the Massif and climbed plenty of long and committing alpine routes. One highlight was skiing the second descent of the Sentinel Rouge Couloir on the Brenva face of Mont Blanc in July 2013. This was one of the biggest unrepeated lines in the Alps on the biggest and most committing skiable face in the Alps. This passion has led me to ski technical first descents in the Alps, Baffin Island, British Columbia, Norway and New Zealand. Most recently in autumn 2017 my ski partners and I skied the first descent of the 2,000 meter Caroline Face on Mt. Cook, one of the world’s largest unskied lines.

I work year round as an IFMGA guide taking clients skiing in the backcountry, alpine climbing and rock climbing. I’m passionate about sharing strong experiences in the mountains and I particularly love coaching clients who want to learn and develop themselves. I specialise in skiing technical terrain with low ratios and coaching techniques and tactics for steep skiing and freeriding.

I have been living in Chamonix since 2009 and I still have an endless list of skiing and climbing projects. I’m constantly looking at how to progress my skiing through mastering different technical aspects of skiing and becoming stronger and wiser in the mountains. I love being creative and pushing myself to always ski in a more fluid and playful manner on all types of terrain.

There are many places I plan to take my skis in the next few years, always searching for a state of flow and to sometimes push myself mentally and physically to the limit when the time is right.
