Men's Waterproof Hard Shell Mountain Jacket

HIGH PERFORMANCE TECHNICAL SHELL

Grim: built for conditions of the same name.

Protection against the most severe conditions, and with enough versatility for all-year use. Built to the same specification as our Odin, but with hand pockets instead of the Odin’s chest pockets.

Made from Jöttnar SKJOLDR™. The windproof, waterproof, breathable fabric for harsh weather protection and durability.

Features include an integrated RECCO® Rescue System diode and antenna-based passive transponder; two-way pit zips for temperature regulation; helmet compatible hood patterning for excellent visibility and unimpeded head movement; internal valuables/smartphone pocket; forearm lift pass pocket; large inner dump pocket to stash gloves or keep ski skins warm; Cohaesive™ hem adjusters for simplified cord management; and Jöttnar's signature anti-snag hem cords to avoid tangling with gear.

Wear over a mid layer or base layer as your final protective outer layer for skiing and mountaineering.

Simply Awesome

I have been hunting for a high quality hard shell for a while. I have a few Jottnar items now and went for the hard shell to compliment them. It has arrived and better quality than I could have ever imagined. The fit is perfect and will be used all year round I'm sure. An exceptional brand!

Grim Waterproof Jacket

The quality of Jottnar is second to none, being ex services I have tried a lot of clothing in harsh environments .
Stayed dry in a total downpour!
I will be purchasing further items from this company.

Great hard shell jacket

Have worn this now on a few day hikes and one was a very wet day, the fit and the hood kept me dry throughout the day. On other hard shells I have had the water seems to get in around the hood area but the design of this jacket is great. The quality is awesome and this is my second Jottnar purchase now and was bought because the Fenrir light weight down jacket was exceptionally good, so was looking for a hard shell and decided to stick with Jottnar.
I have had shell's in the past and after a day out hiking and getting caught in a shower or two you find that its let a fair amount of water in.

Tough hard shell, great fit

I'm 6'7" and this jacket fits perfectly. The quality of the fabrics, zips and finish are evident from the first time you pick it up. The jacket manages to give a very robust feel while being light and easy to move in. I expect it will last for years.

Great fit, very practical and attention to detail

I was apprehensive to buy a Jottnar product. They felt on the expensive side and aimed at a professional-athletic level, whereas I needed a new weather-proof coat for dog-walks and walking holidays around the UK. Although I certainly do long walks, I struggle with ridges so certainly no "conquering giants" for me.

But after nearly a year of wearing their Grim coat, I am completely converted. Firstly, I am 190cm tall and quite slim and their S-size immediately felt very comfortable and a good looking fit. With some other brands I fluctuate between S and M and there is always something not quite right, but Grim covers all that it needs to cover and also looks fantastic.

The quality is superb. I walk the dog in all sorts of conditions with the first walk at 6am. The recent storms and a 2w holiday in western Scotland made me appreciate this coat a lot. Their hood and area covering the neck is really well designed and made me brave the tail end of Eunice feeling warm and dry. The regulation of hood is pretty minimal and the hood opening may feel too small so I would suggest to always open the zip a little before taking it off or putting it on. This may be a bit distracting, but I prefer it this way as it keeps the opening to what it needs to be and you actually don't need to spend much time fixing the tension on it.

Finally, there's lots of detail like a protective strap for the top end of the zip or a nice pattern on the inside of the jacket. It just makes you feel a little better about this 6am walk prospect when it's still dark and the weather is less inviting.

I would perhaps appreciate some more recommendations for care & maintenance though. The ones on the website are pretty minimal - gentle wash at 30C. Perhaps I missed them but it would be useful to have some more hints on how to keep it water-proof.
